Im trying to study poses from actors etc. I want to know a bit about acting so I can make better characters. It's something I'm wrestling with, I will try to post some of that stuff in a while.
Another thing I'm doing is my last year of school, just 10 more months and Im finished with it. One of the things I need to do for school is to make a portfolio, I will use that assignment to make a portfolio for finding work and to show what I can. I only now know that I can't make what I want, I just aint that good yet... But I can't practise forever and I need to think about what kind of work I want to do (in the Netherlands we don't have any animation studio's), I need to trow myself in the market. So I am trying to find a "style" that I can use for my portfolio, without giving up the things I am trying to learn. Man I hope I can make something I will be happy with..
Hmm I think it's too generic and too safe. But I need to begin somewhere.

Hep cat
the originals!
I didn't compared them after I did the blue lines/sonstruction. I should because they are quite off model...
I tryed a 5B pencil, I have read that Turquoise 4B are really good pencils to draw with.

caricatures
I thumbled on this blog from Tom Richmond, where he explains how to make caricatures. The lessons are great! There's only 2 of them now but there will be more in the future.
I loose drew some copy's study's of the drawings where he explains some stuff.
After I had read the 2 lessons I started to do the exercise from lesson 2. After that I tryed to do a caricature of an actor without looking at other caricatures. Is he recognizable?

bugs bunny, working on construction
For this study I use a screen from falling hare, the Bugs has been drawn by McKimson. I really like it to draw, but it is really hard.
This is how I work. I wanna show it so maybe some bloggers have some tips for me and maybe some bloggers will find it usefull.
Blue pencil setup. I scan it in to check the construction. Before I scan it in, I think about what I did wrong. I now think that I did the angle on the head wrong and because of that the line of action isn't smooth. We will see...
Ok, I scanned it in and compared it with the original. I needed to rotate the drawing a bit. The head looks ok. But the body is really bad... So bad I don't know if I wanna fix it. Because the body is wrong I did his arms and etc. also wrong.. I will try to adjust that.
Ok, I think this one whill be decent. I think the carrot will have a wrong angle, but for now I can life with that. Next comparison.
Ok, the biggest mistakes are in his hands. That's OK because I still got trouble with hands.

Made me think
Amir's last comment on my previous post made me think. The last year I am really trying to develop my drawing (cartoons) skills, I do think allot about it how I can get better and how good I can get. I hope I can use my principles that I am learning with this blog can apply on my work, as soon as possible. I really wanna work somewhere where I can learn the principles from others, but that is not really realistic for me (I think). Just like a school where I can learn this stuff.
I think if you are a wannabe cartoonist you need to approach it in two ways. 1 learn the principles and 2 experiment with youre own ideas and stuff. I am learning the principles on this blog and I made an other blog where I will try to put 1 doodle/caricature etc. a day. To get a sort of own eye and feel for things.
I did a new drawing of slabnernie. It's really not on model but I tried to experiment a bit, be a bit more loose. Uhm I think this kinda drawings belong on my other blog... Nah, I will use my other blog for own sketches and stuff.

Need to doodle more
Latley I am trying to make some own designs and doodles. But it is something I find hard to do, I don't feel very confident when doodling. Actually I feel pretty embarresd to post this drawing. The reason I am posting this is because I want to show what I am doing. I think I need to doodle more to get an own taste and eye for things, draw from the real. Come to think about it, maybe I should make another blog where I can post my doodles and use this blog for the study's of principles.
Besides that I need to keep studying strong principles and hope they whil sink in.I did a lion because my last name (Leeuwe) means in Englesh Lion. Leeuwe is probarly a strange name for all you?

simple poses and expressions
Ok, I am trying something different.
I picked a character (cousin of george) and tried some different poses. The first pose is one I got from Amir's blog.
They are not really good because they are not very on model. But I encounted some new problems for me. Like how I should start with making a pose and how does his body work. Besides that I see that I now overlooked some things, like a sleeve that looks strange etc.
I wanna try this more in the future, I think I can learn allot from it.
Seeing it now back, it looked like I didn't used a line of action (my girlfriend attended me on that). It looks kinda stiff.... The details don't curve and go with the line. Maybe I should be a bit more carefull when I am drawing. Drawing slow and think!
Hmm need to buy some new pencils...
I did a new one. I tried to do a better job on the action line. I don't understand the hands that good. Anyone have tips? Anyone have tips for better lines?
